Plan Your Journey to Palermo Falcone e Borsellino Airport

The real journey begins with good preparation at home. It is essential to organize your car trip in advance to avoid last-minute unexpected issues and arriving late at Palermo Airport. For this reason, we provide you with our useful tips for your departure to the Sicilian airport.

    Road Access and Main Routes

Falcone e Borsellino Airport (PMO) is located about 35 km from the capital city. It is easily reachable by travelling on either the **SS113 Settentrionale Sicula** state road or the **A29 motorway (Palermo-Mazara del Vallo)**. Both routes are clearly signposted, but we recommend monitoring the A29, which is the fastest route but prone to traffic peaks.

Estimated Travel Durations (Optimal Road Conditions):

These times will help you calculate your departure time, assuming smooth traffic conditions:

    • From Messina to Palermo Airport: 229 km / approximately 3 hours
    • From Trapani to Palermo Airport: 95 km / approximately 2 hours
    • From Agrigento to Palermo Airport: 130 km / approximately 3 hours
    • From Caltanissetta to Palermo Airport: 132 km / approximately 2 hours

    Check Real-Time Road Conditions

Always check the traffic situation before you leave, especially during peak summer exodus days in Sicily:

Vehicle Preparation and Driving Rules in Sicily

Before starting your journey, it is essential to carry out a quick check of the vehicle. Personally verify the oil and coolant levels, and do not forget to check the pressure of the tires, including the spare one, for safe travelling.

We remind you that travelling on Italian motorways requires the payment of a toll at the exit gate.

    Refuelling

Throughout Sicily, you will find petrol, diesel, or LPG distributors. To save money, we recommend filling up at service stations located in the city, as prices along motorways are generally higher. For LPG and methane, it is advisable to check the location of the nearest distributor in advance, as they are less common.
