Highways in Germany can get busy, especially during holiday seasons. However, Bremen Airport (often called City Airport Bremen) is known for its convenient location and short distances. While it is easy to reach, we recommend checking for traffic jams on the A1 motorway before you start your trip.
Driving directions to the airport:
The airport is located just south of the city center and connects directly to the A281. Here is the best way to get there depending on where you are coming from:
To ensure a smooth journey without any fines, here are a few important regulations you should be aware of when driving on German roads.
It is mandatory to carry a reflective safety vest in your car in Germany. Since 2014, every vehicle must have at least one. If you have a breakdown or an accident, you must put this vest on before you exit the vehicle to set up your warning triangle.
Using technology to detect speed cameras is illegal in Germany. This applies to radar detectors, but also to mobile apps or features in your GPS navigation system (like TomTom or Waze). Make sure these warnings are turned off while driving to avoid penalties.
Many German cities, including Bremen, have "Low Emission Zones" in the city center. To drive there, your car needs a green emissions sticker (Umweltplakette).
Note: While the airport itself is usually accessible without entering the zone, you will need a sticker if you plan to drive into Bremen city center. Cars without a sticker (or with a red/yellow one) are not allowed in these zones.
